The History of The Blog - Part 1

So you thought Blogs were the next big thing. It seems like they have been around since as early as 1996. Blockstar has a nice Time Line of Blog History. Looks like Jorn Barger is credited with coining the term blog in 1997. Rebecca Blood also has a nice post about Blog History that dates back to 2000.
Here is Eaton's first blog and here is his blog now.

A Great Quote on the Impact of Blogs

I leave you with this quote by Rebecca Blood 9 years after the spotting of the first blog:

"We are being pummeled by a deluge of data and unless we create time and spaces in which to reflect, we will be left with only our reactions. I strongly believe in the power of weblogs to transform both writers and readers from "audience" to "public" and from "consumer" to "creator." Weblogs are no panacea for the crippling effects of a media-saturated culture, but I believe they are one antidote. - Rebecca Blood -

Roughly five years after she posted it, it still seems quite apropos.

Thanks for the wine & scotch lists suggestions. That is a great idea and I will try and trim the posts down. Also, great advice for a post "how to repel ugly guys". I will definitely put something together. You are too funny. V

Hello Veronica,

Great Blog. I really like the pictures. There are too many words in your articles otherwise I would read them. I do not want to waste all the tax payers money that I am being paid. I mean what do you think I do all day- sit in front of a computer. I am not sure if this is what most people write on blogs. What happened- I did not see any recommended wine lists or scotch brands?
Recommendation please include one or the other. Also, include how to repel ugly guys. I learned a great trick. Ask the guy to be your sugar daddy. It repels men really quickly. Try it some time. Well hope you enjoyed my message. I guess I am officially banned from adding to your blog or I will not be invited again. To all my friends in ny hello. I would write more but for the sake of content I will leave this weekend stories of Amsterdam off the site. I believe this is rated PG site Ciao for now. -KLM
