Chris's Birthday at First Edition

Recently a few of my old high school buddies and some of Chris's college buddies met up to celebrate his 26th birthday. Birthdays are always a good excuse to get everyone together. With everyone's busy schedules, it often seems like the only way to ever meet up with old buds. We had a blast. The bar is in Bay Side, and an interesting aside, they have X - Box video games at the bar which you can play for free. How fun is that. You can have head to head races while sipping on a freshly poured draft. It's a nice touch.

Summer 2005 Free Events in New York

Now you can finally impress your friends by being in the know. I have been blasting this excel file around and it is a great lits of free events in New York City through out the summer. Its def worth the download. Though, I am still not quite sure where it originated and who created.

Download summer_2005.xls

The nice feature about this list is that it has links to each event. It includes Shakespeare in the Park, Movies in Bryant Park, MidSummer Nights Swing, The JVC Jazz Festival, GMA Concerts at Rockefeller Plaza, Concerts at Bryant Park, and New York City Opera productions in Central Park. I am not sure if I left any thing out, but take a look at the list. Its worth it.

Google & The Museum Mile Festival

Charlie recently blogged about the Museum Mile Festival. I was sad I missed it, but Goggle it seems did not. The logo on their main search page pays homage to the great Frank Lloyd Wright. You can clearly make out the Guggenheim in the G.

SEE YOU THERE IF YOU DECIDE TO GO

Some of you may never have heard of the concept of micro finance. I think its a great concept. Get some investors together, raise capital, create "micro" loans to provide funding for start ups and small ventures that other wise would not get funding. It works so well because target borrowers have high pay back rates and usually do not default.

What is Micro Finance
Small loans that help poor people who wish to start or expand their small businesses but, are not able to get banks to lend to them.

Harvard is teaching a class on this. Bhakti Mirchandani is a strong proponent of micro finance and has started three initaitives to promote this concept.

1)
Global Microentrepreneurship Awards - which gives away 50Gs a year
2) The Graduate Student MADVC (Microfinance and Development Venture Capital Network
3) The Harvard College Social Enterprise Club

This is a well owed post of some photos from our B-Day celebration at the Gansevoort hotel. There was a great turnout and it was wonderful seeing everyone despite the weather. Thanks for the drinks, e-cards, and Agatha thanks for the pool party Sephora liquid soaps. We will be sure to have them out at our next outdoor bash. Here are some pics. For those of you that don't know the story. After the rooftop bar soiree, a few of us went over to Pop Burger for some eats. The calamari and sliders were excellent. Too bad the drunk guy that accosted women decided to sit at our table. Thankful that he did, as fearless Christina managed to get the bouncer and get the drunk boy booted out. Ahh, what would we do without our friends.
